All-American Grilled Hamburgers

Ingredients
- 2ΒΌ lbs ground round, chuck, or sirloin
- 1 onion, cut into 6 thick slices
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 6 hamburger buns
- 1 head red leaf lettuce, washed and separated
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 medium tomato, cut into 6 slices
- 12 slices dill or sweet pickles
- 12 strips cooked bacon
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Mayonnaise
- Preheat your grill and oil the grate.
- Divide the meat into 6 equal portions. With wet hands, shape each into a 4-inch round patty.
- Brush one side of each onion slice lightly with olive oil.
- Season both the patties and onions with salt and pepper.
- Place patties and onions on the grill. After 5 minutes, flip the patties and continue grilling until nicely browned and cooked to your preference. Remove onions when browned and tender.
- Brush the cut sides of the buns with remaining olive oil and grill, cut side down, for the last 2 minutes.
- Place bottom buns on a platter. Add lettuce, cheese, and a hot patty (so the cheese melts).
- Serve with tomato, pickles, bacon, grilled onions, and your choice of ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.
